In the
beginning came three wise Rotarians , PP Tay Kim Ann , PP Mokkam Singh and PDG Lim Hock Teck , who were to create history
for what was to become the birth of a dynamic new club in the Rotary District 3310.
The
year was 1989. Under the leadership of President Mokkam Singh , the Rotary Club of Johor Bahru embarked on its quest to further
develop Rotary services to the fast developing city of Johor Bahru. In
order that Rotary may exert its undest influence , it was decided that a new club be established with the Rotary Clubof Johor
Bahru as the Mother Club. It thus started to look out for service minded candidates to be roped in for the likely formation
of a new club , which was to be named the Rotary Club of Tebrau.
An inaugural
meeting was chaired by Protem President Dr. Tibbs Fernandez on 16th March 1989 , at 5:30 pm , at the function room
of Holiday Inn , Johor Bahru. Many more would-be Rotarians came and showed up for subsequent meetings which aptly reflected
the mood as “enjoyable “. The Rotary Club of Tebrau was officially admitted as a member of Rotary International
on the 8th May 1989 with 29 charter members.
